Using your cards
Does it work without signal or data?
Yes. Your cards are saved on your phone, so they open and show their barcodes with no signal, no Wi-Fi and no data. You only need the internet to back up or sync, or to sign in.
The till won’t scan my barcode. What can I try?
- Open the card in the app. The screen turns up to full brightness on its own; if it doesn’t, turn the brightness up.
- Hold the phone flat and still, about 10 to 15 cm from the scanner, and tilt it slightly if the light reflects off the screen.
- Turn the phone sideways for a bigger barcode.
- Wipe the screen. A cracked screen or a thick, scratched screen protector can stop a scan.
- Turn off night mode, blue-light filters or battery saver modes that dim the screen.
- Tap Show number only so the cashier can type the number in.
- Check that the number matches your physical card. If not, edit the card or scan it again.
Some older till scanners can only read printed barcodes, not phone screens. That’s up to the shop, and the number fallback is there for those cases.
How do I add a card?
Tap + on the Cards screen and point the camera at the barcode or QR code. You can also type the number in, or pick a photo of the card. On iPhone, importing from a photo only works for QR codes; on Android it works for all barcode types.
Why can’t I see my points automatically?
Till & Stack doesn’t connect to retailer systems to read your points, we never log in to your retailer accounts, and we never ask for your retailer passwords. You type your balance in when you check it (on a slip or the retailer’s own app), and the app shows when you last updated it. You can set an expiry reminder too.
Can I lock a card?
Yes. You can turn on an app lock, and protect individual cards with your fingerprint, face or phone PIN.
Backup and new phones
How do I back up my cards?
Two ways, and you can use both:
- Backup file (free, no account): export an encrypted backup file and keep it somewhere safe, like your cloud drive or email. Import it on your new phone.
- Account backup and sync: create a free account and your cards are backed up, encrypted on your phone first so we can’t read them.
What is the recovery phrase?
When you turn on sync, the app shows you a recovery phrase of 12 words, once. It unlocks your encrypted cards on a new phone. Write it down and keep it safe. Because of end-to-end encryption, we can’t see it and can’t reset it: if you lose it and all your signed-in phones, your synced cards can’t be recovered. (Cards still on your phone are not affected.)
I got a new phone. How do I move my cards?
Install the app, sign in to your account and enter your recovery phrase. Or import your backup file.
Privacy and account
Do I need an account?
No. The wallet works fully without one. An account is only needed for backup and sync, Plus, and (later) Stack.
Can you see my card numbers?
No. Without an account, your cards never leave your phone. With an account, they are encrypted on your phone before they are sent, and only your devices and your recovery phrase can unlock them. Read the privacy notice for details.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: You → Privacy & data → Delete account. Without the app, see delete your account.
Stack and crypto
What is Stack?
Stack is an optional cashback and savings feature that is not available yet. It will only launch after a legal review, it will be off unless you turn it on, and it will be for people aged 18 and older.
Bit Primitive never holds your crypto. Licensed partners handle any crypto payouts in their own apps. Crypto assets are volatile and you may lose value. Not financial advice.
